Beethoven made a great change in his life when he moved from Bonn to Vienna in late 1792, but he apparently took many finished or partially finished manuscripts with him. Beethoven scholars are still unable to differentiate definitively between Bonn works and Vienna works.

Although published after Beethoven's death as Opus 103, this four-movement work for two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, and two horns dates from the late Bonn or early Vienna days.
