From 1785 to 1789, Beethoven seems to taken a compositional hiatus, perhaps triggered by a bad review of his early piano works, or a failure to get the piano quartets published. Chronological dating of Beethoven's music from 1785 through 1792 remains highly controversial.

This short and unobtrusive minuet could really have been composed any time before its 1805 publication, but it seems like an early work to me.
