Since about 1787, Beethoven had been working on a piano concerto. Through many drafts and revisions, this became the work we now know as his Piano Concerto No. 2 (Opus 19). One of the earlier final movements was published separately as Rondo for Piano and Orchestra (WoO 6).

One characteristic of this Rondo is an unusual extended Andante in Eā™­ that has its own cadenza before returning to the first theme.

The sound is tinny and the video is smeary, but this 1962 performance by the Moscow Philharmonic under Kirill Kondrashin features the great pianist Sviatoslav Richter.
