#Beethoven250 Day 8
“Schilderung eines Mädchens” (WoO 107), 1783

About 30 seconds in length, Beethoven's first published song is a “Description of a Woman,” her eyes like stars on a winter night in a painting. Then it's over.

#Beethoven250 Day 8
“An einen Säugling” (WoO 108), 1784

Beethoven's song set to a poem “To an Infant” addresses an apparently orphaned baby whose “mother” will one day be revealed as the baby's nurse. Additional verses (not in this recording) reveal that the first two verses are a metaphor for the care that God bestows throughout everyone's life.
